Publication Process and Rights of the Parties
Ethical Rules, Rights, and Responsibilities
The publication of an article in the Alevi Encyclopedia is a mutual responsibility of the authors and the Alevi Encyclopedia. The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board, Authors, and Reviewers are responsible for adhering to the scientific criteria and ethical behavior standards outlined below for all parties involved in the publishing process.
Readers, as the main target audience of the Alevi Encyclopedia, contribute with their opinions on matters such as the review, evaluation, and improvement of the published articles and publishing in general. The critiques and suggestions of the readers are a fundamental guide for the Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board, authors, and the Alevi Encyclopedia Coordination Board.
Duties and Rights of the Editorial Board
1) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board is responsible for the publication of article content
(a) The alignment with the scope and objectives of the Alevi Encyclopedia,
(b) Compliance with writing guidelines,
(c) Compliance with ethical guidelines, and
(d) It is responsible for deciding which content will be published by considering criteria such as its relevance and importance for readers.
2) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board is required to provide the author with a written explanation of the reasons why a submitted article content has been rejected. Rejected content must not be shared with the public or third parties under any circumstances. The information and materials in these contents cannot be used in any way without the author's permission. The information obtained during these processes must be kept confidential in accordance with the author's rights.
3) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board should refrain from evaluating article content in cases of conflict of interest (ethical, religious, political, economic, or similar reasons).
4) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board may request a written 'peer review' from qualified academics, intellectuals, and researchers in cases that exceed their own knowledge and expertise.
5) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board should evaluate submitted article content based on its relevance to the Alevi Encyclopedia, without considering factors such as the author's gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnicity, citizenship, or political philosophy.
6) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board respects the personal rights of authors. Author information, content of submitted articles, peer review processes, discussions during these processes, reviewer information, and all other editorial process-related information must not be shared in any form, directly or indirectly.
7) In case of ethical complaints regarding a published article, the Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board should contact the author(s), investigate the complaint, and ensure that corrections are made if necessary. Additionally, the Board should resolve such matters by taking various measures, such as referring the issue to reviewers and/or, if necessary, withdrawing the article.
8) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board should encourage article submissions from different perspectives for articles that are under discussion.
9) Communication and peer review processes between the Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board and all authors are archived in an online environment.
Duties and Rights of the Authors
1) Authors are directly responsible for the content of the articles they prepare.
2) Content submitted to the encyclopedia is considered to be free from plagiarism, in compliance with academic standards, supported by references, free of false information, and original works as declared by the authors.
3) When the content submitted by the authors is based on their own fieldwork, they are expected to provide detailed and verifiable data about these studies.
4) Authors can use previously published writings from digital platforms or print publications as article content. In this case, the content must be reorganized, updated according to writing guidelines, and the source of its prior publication should be clearly stated.
5) Authors must disclose any economic, political, or other significant conflicts of interest that could affect the results or interpretations of the content they submit.
6) Authors must not include discriminatory, exclusionary, judgmental, sexist, or similar content in the materials they prepare.
7) Authors can make corrections to the content of their published articles. The correction information will be noted as an update on the encyclopedia page.
8) Authors can prepare alternative content for a previously published article. The Alevi Encyclopedia supports multiple entries on the same topic to encompass the diversity of interpretations and practices of Alevism.
9) The copyright of published article content belongs to the Alevi Encyclopedia.
10) Authors are solely responsible for the copyright of visual and auditory materials they use and any disputes or legal processes arising from this.
11) Authors are considered to have guaranteed the originality of the visual and auditory materials they use.
12) Images used on the internet or previously published in print works can be used, provided that proper citation is made.
13) Up to 3 images (JPEG format, resolution 1200 x 1200) can be added optionally along with the article content.
14) Authors cannot use pseudonyms; they must use their real names and (preferably) titles.
Duties and Rights of the Reviewers
1) Reviewers are individuals consulted for their expert opinion, knowledge, and experience in cases where the Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board is unable to evaluate an article content, cannot do so due to ethical reasons, or when objections arise to a published article. Reviewers are primarily selected from the members of the Alevi Encyclopedia Scientific Advisory Board. When necessary, reviewers can also be chosen from other recognized academics and researchers with relevant expertise.
2) The Alevi Encyclopedia Editorial Board is obligated to send the subject requiring a peer review, along with its relevant attachments, in writing to the reviewers.
3) Reviewers must provide their written evaluation of the article content, in accordance with the Alevi Encyclopedia’s writing guidelines, publication ethics, and general scope and objectives, to the editorial board within a maximum of 2 months.
4) Reviewers must not use or share the article content with the public without the author's permission. Reviewers are responsible for the content entrusted to them.
5) Reviewers should refrain from reviewing article content if they are in conflict of interest (ethical or other reasons).
6) Reviewers should contribute to editorial decisions by helping authors improve their articles and must adhere to scientific principles. Reviews should be objective, clear, and supported by arguments; they should not include personal criticisms and must be constructive.
